What are backlinks and check backlink

Backlink (or incoming link) is a link on a website that leads to your own website. For example, you have a website name websitebuildingguide.blogspot.com. A website named webincoming.blogspot.com has a link on their website in which leads to websitebuildingguide.blogspot.com. Then this link is backlink for websitebuildingguide.blogspot.com.

Backlink serves two purposes:

(1) Search engine optimization: because part of the algorithm for ranking your page on search engines is determined by the number and quality of backlinks to your site. More quality backlinks mean more preference.  

(2) Traffic: the viewers of other websites, will come to visit your site through the backlink. If the website providing backlink has 10000 traffic in their website, then you may expect some of them to come to your site through backlink.

Example: Suppose, a person is searching for "earn money", he shall receive more than 10000 results on search engine. Besides quality of the content, proper keyword etc backlink play a major role. Number of backlinks and quality of backlink providing website are considered while giving preference by search engines.

You can get free backlink and paid backlink. To gain the maximum from backlink, the backlink must be in a high page rank site.

Free backlinks

 (1) Your site must have great content and quality. If your site has great content, then readers of your website shall provide backlink to your site in their website. You must have seen that one website giving backlink of other website. Because, webmasters and bloggers shall tell and link their readers to your website (great content, quality and service) for their business purposes.

(2) You can contact other sites and ask them to link to you and you can offer reciprocal linking. Reciprocal linking means you shall provide a backlink for other party website and other party shall provide backlink for your website. You can also manage three party link exchanges. In this case, A puts a link to B, B puts a link to C and C puts a link to A.

(3) You can comment on others websites with a backlink to your website. But, you must give a meaningful comment. Otherwise, your website may be deemed as scam.

(4) You can give a backlink in social networking sites like google+, facebook, twitter etc. and social bookmarking sites like digg, delicious etc.

(5) Submit you website to major directories which provide free service like Egyptbot.com, Phantis.com etc.

(1) Submit you website to major paid directories.

(2) You may tell other webmaster or blogger to provide backlink in their website in lieu of money.

(3) There are many backlink providing sites. You may give money to build backlink. You can buy backlink.

(4) You can hire a freelancer to build backlinks for your website.

Check backlink:

You can check backlink and page rank of a website by Web rank toolbar of Mozilla Firefox. Just install it from Tools > Add-ons menu. And you shall have a toolbar to you browser.
